The Kingdom of Bahrain’s Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs, and Urban Planning led by Essam bin Abdullah Khalaf has opened tender to develop to soilless farming projects in Diraz and Hurat A’ali areas.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the tender has been opened in accordance with the implementation of HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s Initiative for food security.
The minister said the project’s financial preparations has been carried out for 36 months, including a two-year period for the operation of the two areas, comprising 18,000m2 in Diraz and 24,000m2 in Hurat A’ali.
Commenting on the tender issue, Agriculture and Marine Resources undersecretary, Dr. Nabeel Mohammed Abu Al Fateh said that the project aims to support Bahraini youth to work in the field of agricultural production and adopt innovative technologies for sustainable production.
Al Fateh explained that the project comprises six sites distributed over the four governorates, including the two projects in Diraz and Hurat A’ali, which form the Phase 1 of the project.
With the development of all phases of the farming projects, production of local vegetables is expected to increase by 20%.
