Bee’ah, Polyeco builds region’s first marine waste treatment facility

Sharjah-based waste management company Bee’ah and European environmental protection company Polyeco has claimed to have built the region’s first marine waste treatment facility.

Set to be operational from July 2020, the Alternative Raw Material facility will treat and process maritime waste and marine-related hazardous waste from Bee’ah’s Waste Management Complex in Al Sa’jaa, Sharjah.

The move is part of the firm’s joint efforts to protect oceans, while developing the UAE’s circular economy. Bee’ah and Polyeco also have further plans in combating other areas in maritime pollution such as oil spill response services and green ship recycling.

Commenting on the partnership, Bee’ah group CEO, HE Khaled Al Huraimel, said the firm is a “staunch believer” in the necessity of co-creation and a holistic approach to solving the world’s greatest environmental challenges.

“We have already established a reputation for waste management on land and through this partnership we hope to expand our already extensive portfolio of zero-waste solutions in the open waters,” said HE Al Huraimel.

Also responding to the collaboration, Polyeco executive chairman of global operations, Athanasios Polychronopoulos, said Bee’ah and Polyeco “share the same values and vision” for sustainability, growth, and business transparency.

“The alliance highlights the importance of teamwork to broaden our focus for evolving environmental challenges and demands,” said Polychronopoulos. “This partnership will lay the foundations of Polyeco’s expansion in the Middle East, and introduce our exceptional solutions and sophisticated technology.”
