Consolidated Contractors Co earns LEED Gold for MAF mall in Egypt

Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) has earned a LEED Gold certification from the US Green Building Council (USGBC) for Egypt’s City Centre Almaza mall which is located in East Cairo.

The milestone has marked the mall as one among the only two LEED-Gold certified shopping centres in Egypt.

The 120,000m2 retail and entertainment centre opened to public in September 2019.

CCC completed the construction and LEED certification process of the Majid Al-Futtaim (MAF) development, as part of a joint venture with local construction company Hassan Allam.

The sustainability milestone included 14.6% energy savings; 89% waste recycling via a detailed waste management program; 47% reduction of water-use through low flow fixtures and wastewater management; and 4.7% offset of total energy consumed by utilising renewable energy generated on-site.

In addition, CCC ensured the procurement and use of environmentally preferable materials; 30.9% of the total building materials were manufactured using recycled materials and 48.5% were sourced locally.

CCC’s past green building projects include the Abu Dhabi International Airport Midfield Terminal Building and the Palestinian Museum, among other projects.
