Oman’s Fisheries Ministry inks deal to set up F&B innovation unit

In a move to boost the food & beverages (F&B) sector in Oman, Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries, and Water Resources is planning to set up a F&B innovation unit at the General Directorate of Agricultural and Animal Research.

The news comes as the ministry inks two cooperation agreements with the Industrial Innovation Centre, which also includes leasing a feed manufacturing unit.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Ahmed bin Nasser Al-Bakri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries, and Water Resources for Agriculture, and Dr. Abdullah bin Muhammad Al Mahrouqi, CEO of the Industrial Innovation Center.

The first agreement relates to leasing a feed manufacturing unit with the aim to create a suitable environment for industrial innovation as well as supporting emerging companies in the field and incubating young projects.

Meanwhile, the second agreement, which covers the establishment of the F&B innovation unit, aims to create a suitable environment for industrial innovation to enable innovators and entrepreneurs to manufacture innovative food products; at the same it aims to establish companies in addition to developing products of the existing companies.

Oman News Agency said that the signing of the two agreements comes with the aim of promoting economic diversification and creating opportunities for Omani youth through innovation and entrepreneurship.

All this, while also taking into account the achievement of growth, sustainability, and optimal use of natural resources in the Sultanate.
